Virtual Mad Men Dinner Party

On Sunday, March 18, The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook authors, Judy Gelman and Peter Zheutlin, hosted a virtual dinner party on Twitter to celebrate the upcoming season five premiere of Mad Men. Food bloggers from all over the United States and Canada joined us to talk canap©s, cookies, and cocktails, and to share photos and experiences. All of the bloggers made at least one recipe from The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook, and we all had lots of fun talking about two of our favorite topics: food and Mad Men. Judy and Peter wrote about the party on their blog here, and you can see pictures of all the fabulous food in our Facebook …

But we particularly wanted to share this great video the Boston Herald shot of Judy and Peter talking about the book and even putting together a few of the recipes. (You also get a little visual taste of the book itself, as they flip through.)

And of course, don’t forget you can get the introduction and some sample recipes by signing up for our Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook news and update list, on our book page, and a few more by liking The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook on Facebook!…

Seeking Mad Men-fan film students!

By No Comments

The co-authors of The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook seek a volunteer film student (or students) to collaborate on producing three high-quality, short video clips (each to run about 3 minutes) to be used for book publicity, including posting on YouTube, Facebook, and other social media. All work to be done in NYC and will involve shooting at three Mad Men restaurant, hotel and bar locations. Work to be done by mid-November with final product available in early December to coincide with book release. The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook Online

By 2 Comments

We here at Smart Pop may be the only Mad Men fans in the world that aren’t upset that the show’s fifth season was delayed until early 2012. Why? Because we—along with authors Judy Gelman and Peter Zheutlin—have been hard at work this year on The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook, hitting shelves December 2011.

If you’re as excited about the book as we are (and as these various news outlets were, when we announced the book back in February), you might be interested to know that we’ve officially launched the book’s web presence . . . which comes with a few opportunities to get a sneak peak at the book’s contents!

I’ll be doing our usual introduction post here on the blog closer …

Some Emmy Thoughts!

By No Comments

The Emmys have come and gone and you just know a company devoted to pop culture commentary has some thoughts on who won and who didn’t. (Also on who wore what, but those particular thoughts might be best saved for a different time.)

So, drumroll…

Some Nice Emmy Moments:

  • While I love Glee and can (and often do!) vouch for its awesomeness, seeing Modern Family take a few of the writing awards — and, of course, the best comedy prize — was pretty great as I think it’s one of the best-written shows on tv right now. In fact, I can’t remember laughing as hard or as often as I do at any sitcom since the first few seasons of The Office. (Although Archer

In Praise of ABC Family

By 6 Comments

This is probably an indication of a very boring life, but I was excited to see that ABC Family will start showing Friday Night Lights in syndication on September 7. Friday Night Lights is one of those shows that everyone says is amazing but I haven’t gotten around to seeing because there’s just so much out there, and because starting it seems like an undertaking I am not fully equipped for. (Also on that list: The Wire.) FNL is Jennifer’s favorite show, though, and we’re talking about putting together a Smart Pop book for next summer, so the timing works out nicely. And it’s just one more reason to appreciate ABC Family.

I not-so-secretly love ABC Family (which is why I’m working very …
