Last week Leah and I made the annual trek to San Diego to exhibit at Comic-Con International. We saw many Smart Pop contributors, new and old (click through our complete photo album on Facebook here), and over the course of the event, gave away a ton of goodies, including:
- 10 copies of Beyond the Wall
- 250 Panem Companion postcards
- More than 1500 Smart Pop buttons
- 2500 Smart Pop Previews
Pretty good, no? The whole show was a blast, and we’ve shared some of the highlights below! (To get the full rundown of Smart Pop Comic-Con events, you can also read Leah’s pre-con post here.)
WEDNESDAY (PREVIEW NIGHT)
We were especially excited when the doors opened for this year’s preview night, because of our fantastic new location: directly through the F door in the Exhibit Hall. (See that big yellow sign on the left side of the doorway? That’s us.)
Along with a new location, we also had a bigger booth space, which our friends at Signal Fire Studios shared with us. (Below: Leah in the booth.)
Many visitors stopped by throughout the day, including The Psychology of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo co-editor Robin S. Rosenberg, who signed copies of her new book, What’s the Matter With Batman?
Orson Scott Card, editor of Ender’s World, our upcoming Ender’s Game anthology, also visited on Friday. And speaking of Ender’s Game, we scored Ender’s Game movie buttons from the Summit Entertainment booth. (We grabbed a couple of extra, so keep an eye out for an upcoming giveaway on the blog! If you don’t want to miss the announcement you can sign up to receive Ender’s World news here.)
Harrison Cheung and Nicola Pittam, the authors of Christian Bale, signed at the booth and in the Autograph Area on Friday, and at the end of the day, Entertainment Tonight came to talk to them about the book (we want their fancy microphone). We were also excited to see our friends from Fanboy Comics on Friday when they came to interview Harrison; you can check out the video of their conversation here.
Babylon 5 star Claudia Christian signed BLADs of her new memoir, Babylon Confidential, at the booth and in the Autograph Area on Saturday.
One small fan didn’t want an autograph though . . .
On the last day of the show, Beyond the Wall contributors James Lowder, Myke Cole, and Caroline Spector signed copies at the booth, and gave away some limited edition Smart Pop buttons. (Left to right: Myke Cole, James Lowder, and Caroline Spector.)
As the show ended, Leah and I also finally got our hands on a coveted piece of swag: the Fringe fedora. (Left to right: Leah and Heather in their moment of triumph.)
Thanks to all of the contributors, friends, and fans who were able to visit the booth! We had so much fun getting to talk to you all, and look forward to seeing you there again in 2013.
