That is a tough call. In almost every case I would say I like the book better than the movie. But I think in this case I would say I liked the movie just as much as the book, and maybe even just slightly more. I didn’t think they strayed as much from the source text as other movies have done. And it was nice to have perspective/narration from other points of view.

I would have to agree with Jennifer. While I always love the book more, The Hunger Games really surprised me. They only changed things when necessary and they really showed me what I pictured when I was reading. The books pulls slightly ahead just based on the fact that it is the original idea.

Liked the book more, but the movie was outstanding and I think about as good as it could be considering the director. The big challenge will be, for me, Catching Fire. CF is my favorite of the three books and most successful franchises the middle installment is the strongest.

Ah this is tough. I’ve been a fan of the books for years and i love them with all of my heart- they’re what inspired me to keep reading. But the movie was incredible. I personally have to view the book and movie as completely different things, telling different stories. The book included a lot more obviously, but the movie included many small details that made me think “I remember that from the book!” I think it’s a tie!

Hmm…something about seeing Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss just took my breath away. The movie was definitely better than the book!!

There different aspects about both that I liked better than the other. But overall, the book was just better. As always, the book provides more detail than the movie. It gave me a better visual of just how bad the bloodbath was and how big the arena was. It also gave me a better idea of just how strong Katniss had to act all while she was just scared. Not to mention, it had more drama than the movie. (:

While I did enjoy the movie, in my opinion the book was much better. I adore Jen Lawrence and I think her performance was incredible. However, the feel of the movie was just off. I felt like they weaken Peeta’s character to make Katniss seem stronger and it translated to Peeta seeming like a total whimp. I loved the ending though but it doesn’t compare to reading the book and experiencing the characters and the story in your imagination.

I’m a huge fan of both but I would have to say the book was better. I loved the movie and thought they did an amazing job at bringing it to life, but with the book you can imagine everything. The movie also left out some key things like Katniss getting the pin from Madge, the avox story, and Peeta losing his leg. And i love how in the book your in Katniss’s head so you know what she is thinking.

I love the books more even though the movie was amazing. Jennifer Lawrence completely shattered my expectations and brought something to Katniss that I didn’t even know was there. We’re very lucky to have such an incredible actress as our Katniss.

In the end, I liked the book better. That doesn’t take away from the movie being as superb as it was, and it was gratifying to see these characters in the flesh but I didn’t think the movie held the same kind of weight the book did. The pages weighed on my heart but the movie not so much.

Usually people would say the book is better because it’s the original. However, the movie was a great adaptation, which is pretty rare in today’s film industry. Although I had different images of the characters and scenery in my mind when I read the book, I was completely amazed at the Panem Gary Ross and the rest of the cast and crew were able to create. I think the book and the movie are entirely different entities that tell the same story. I personally can’t choose between either of them because I love them both for different reasons. I love how the movie gave a visual of the grandeur of the Capitol compared to the violence of the games, and I love how we were able to see different perspectives that weren’t mentioned in the book, such as the Seneca Crane and Gale. I think there was more emotion in the book, however, and book Katniss was easier to sympathize with than movie Katniss, mainly because of the first-person narration of the novel. Overall though, both are amazing and I really can’t choose!

I absolutely adored both of them but I think the film lacked on some of my favorite details that were in the book but I guess that is normal due to the time they have the right to film for. So I have to say the book just because of that but I couldn’t imagine living without the movie which is, of course my favorite movie ever!!!

I think I would have to say the book. In the books you can kind of go off a little bit and imagine it on your own. Although I did like the movie, and it kept me laughing, I was disappointed in the fact that Madge was not included. I thought the casting in the movie was perfect tho. JOSH! Maybe showing a little more of the time spent in the cave would helped (:

For a book to movie adaption, I’d say the Hunger Games was one of the best (And I’m not just saying this because I’m a die-hard THG fanatic!) However, some weren’t crazy about the movie, which is understandable, because if you’ve read the book, you’d know that the movie had A LOT to live up to. So, I guess my final answer is: The movie was amazing, but the books are so incredible that the movie just can’t compare. The Hunger Games trilogy are the best books I’ve ever read..

well there was a difference from the book and the movie. i loved both. i love the how the book was adapted into a movie. i loved the movie. it portrayed the theme very well and it captured the entire plot of the book. i also loved the book because it taught me lessons about how i can be brave, how as an individual i can change something. the difference about watching the movie and reading the book is that when you’re watchign a movie, you see someone else’s interpretation of the book but when you’re reading the book you have your own imagination and interpretation of the words. i did love both books they were written very nicely and it came to life in the movie/

The book, definitely. The movie had the NC mountains and kick-ass acting, which was nice, no doubt.

But the movie loses out because it replaced a politically and historically relevant discussion about life in District 11 with a discussion about a boy, in some bizarre attempt to earn a female-led movie some negative Bechdel-Test points.

Also, because it’s fairly annoying how the costuming in the movie seemed to associate effeminate men with the inherently sick society of the Capitol.

And because, although Jennifer Lawrence rocked the role, the casting call for Katniss should have included some room for women of color, since Katniss is clearly described as a woman of color in the book.

And because how the hell does Katniss’s dad’s old hunting jacket look so hip and fit her so perfectly?

I LOVED both the books and the film, but I’d have to say that I enjoy the books the most simply because there is more to the story which means more Katniss, Peeta, and everyone else! Also, you can read the books where ever you want to, which means you can always have the story anytime you need it. Don’t get me wrong, I’m in love with the movie too, and plan on buying the DVD as soon as it comes out, but I just have to go with the books on this one…I mean, their the original!

Personally, I prefer the book because it didn’t seem as rushed as the movie felt to me. Through the books, we were able to really get inside Katniss’ head, whereas I feel like in the movie, it would have worked better had it been a bit longer, so that they could have elaborated on certain points, like her relationship with Peeta, which I think got a little bit lost in the movie.

I preferred the books because I felt there was more background and more details. The post-Games time was way to rushed in the movie to set up properly for Catching Fire. What I did really like about the movie though was the scenes outside of the arena.

    [SPOILER ALERT]

The scene with Seneca and the nightlock at the end is my favorite of the entire movie.

    [END SPOILER ALERT]

So although I loved the movie, the books were better.

In my opinion, the book was better than the movie. There are details mentioned in the book that made the story’s plot more intense and creative. However, I think the film adaption of the book was phenomenal. Gary Ross did an exceptional job by recreating the world of the Panem and changing the story line’s point of view to create a more broad perspective of Panem. Overall, the book is slightly better than the movie, but the movie is equally entertaining and amazing as the book. May the odds be ever in my favor!

I like the book better because Katniss’ thoughts are portrayed more in the book than in the movie. Also there are certain things the mvoie left out like the mutts not looking like the tributes, but they made up for it in other areas. Also i felt like the “love” between Katniss and Peeta was more known in the books while yes it could be seen in the movie it just wasnt as big of deal.

I really do love the movie, but it’s not a close call for me. The books, like the books of other series that spawned movies, give you more time to live with and fall in love with the characters. You also get a better understanding of the world, and more insight into how Katniss thinks. None of these is a shortcoming of the movie, but rather an advantage of having a book. Even the action sequences were more exciting, or poignant when they were particularly horrifying, because the book not being visual doesn’t have to be as concerned with what they are showing the audience but rather what the meaning behind everything is.

The movie does have one shortcoming, and that is significantly less relationship development. Katniss/Peeta, Katniss/Prim, Katniss/Cinna, Katniss/Haymitch, and even Katniss/Rue were underdeveloped. It has a lot to do with having very very little time to do all that in, but it also has to do with what moments they chose to focus on. For example, the Katniss/Cinna relationship just needed more time to show how they developed trust, but Katniss/Peeta had more to do with the dialogue and the moments they chose to use to explain the dynamic of their relationship. At least they definitely got Katniss right, but the next movies have a lot of work to do on making first-time viewers really care about the other characters.

So for reasons beyond the movie’s ability to push ahead, as well as a few things I felt could be improved on, I absolutely hold the book closer to my heart than the film adaptation. However, I love the film for being one of the most faithful adaptations I’ve ever seen, the acting moved me, and I find myself hopelessly fangirling all the actors both for their talent and just their personalities that have me laughing and charmed every time they appear in interviews. I can’t wait for the next installment!

I liked the book soo much better than the movie, personally. In the movie, Katniss doesnt tell you all bout her life, or how she does liked her mom, or that she just in love with Peeta for the cameras, to survive. The book goes into so much more depth than the movie did. It gives you a much better picture of her life and whats going on aroud her and how she feel at all times. The by far is my favorite between the two of them.

I like the book slightly more, but the movie is just as amazing and stands on its own very well. I LOVE both the movie and the book. First I read the book, and I’m a super slow reader but, with this book I finished it in about 3 days. With everyother book I’ve read it usually takes me about a month to read- yeah I’m that slow!!! Don’t get me wrong I love to read but I’m really slow!!!! Then the movie was getting ready to come out- oh boy!!!!! I never ever get this excited about movies, I went on “hunger games crazy fan” mode that I didn’t know I had in me! I downloaded trailers from iTunes to my iPod and watched one over and over and over then when I got tired of watching one of them I would watch the other one over and over and over etc. I got a few of my friends together and we pre-bought tickets for the day after it came out.
Waiting in the theater I was trying to contain myself and was talking to my friends about The Hunger Games book. I hoping that the movie was exactly like the book, I didn’t want it to end up like Percy Jackson- the movie was nothing like the book!:( Watching it I got more excited and more excited, the movie was just like opening up my mind when I was reading the book! It was amazing! So in conclusion the book was the best I’ve ever read and the movie was equally the best because it was pretty much the same thing!

And they books teaches you how to survive, and what to do if the hunger games where real and how to fight to survive and defend your family and the people you love. And in the movie ( i really like it) and i think that the director made the movie really true to the book and it was amazing to see that world and characters come to live and jennifer, josh, liam are doing an amazing job doing those characters come to live!! ( i think i like more the books but i dont care the important thing is that i love the franchise) :))

I LOVE both the film and the both. Yes there are things in the film that they should of add like madge giving Katniss the mockingjay pin, Mr. Mellark giving her cookies, showing how much he would of taken care of her family while she was gone. But the film brought something more alive from the book, adding things that I would never thought of ex. Distritc 11 rebelling, President Snow talking to Seneca at his home. How Seneca was ‘killed’ it was overwhelming,Ive read the books a few times and watched the movie just as much. I would never get bored of it, both of them have a lot of things that brought the book/film whole lot better.

I was actually a late comer to the fandom.

I had heard about the books but thought they were copying Battle Royale so I steered clear. I then heard a movie was being made and I was a little interested, mostly because Josh Hutcherson had a lead role. My sister invited me to go see it and with a free weekend I went along.

I ended up loving the movie, stellar acting by everyone involved, I was so enraptured!! Afterwards, I borrowed the books from a friend and ended up reading all 3 in 1 day, I literally could not put them down!!

While I generally prefer books over movies, I must say, it is close to even this time around.

The reason I like books is because people interpret words differently so my vision of a certain character or scene could be completely different to someone else’s. I had already seen the movie but I was still able to imagine a variation of the actors, though casting was pretty spot on (no, I didn’t mind Rue or Cinna not being White, even after reading their descriptions). Another point to books is that scenes and emotions can be described in great detail and are able to make things more real (not going to lie, cried so many times when reading Harry Potter) and usually the only way a movie can portray that is to have a character start inner-monologuing, which can be tricky to pull off properly.

Now for the movies, as stated earlier, casting was amazing and the actors portrayed their emotions well and made them believable. The soundtracks were great, especially the trailer song. The movie led, not only me, but tons of people to start reading the series so you know they did something right. Also, can I just say how amazing Seneca’s beard was? Shout-out to Ve Neill and the rest of the department, their work was stunning!!

TLDR: The books were able to describe emotions and everything in detail while the movies provided great visuals of the characters and everything else. In short, this is one instance where I actually think a movie-adaptation was done well (don’t even get me started on Percy Jackson).

To me this is an easy decision, the book was definitely better. BUT, I still absolutely LOOOVE the movie. It was interesting how they saw the different points of views of people that was not seen in the book. Another thing I may add, is that it seemed to me that there wasn’t enough character development with the other characters in the movie, but that’s just a small thing(: However, it did bother me a lot how some things were different than the book, but that’s really no biggy, Nothing will stop me from loving Hunger Games <3

Hmm this is going to be hard to answer, especially because the movie was a close adaptation of the book. Both the book and the movie were AMAZING but if I had to choose I’d say I like the book slightly better. The only reason is because you get a direct link with Katniss and her thoughts at every moment and it helps to understand the pain she goes through. But Jennifer Lawrence (my favorite actor ever) did a phenomenal job portraying the heartache and struggle in the movie so maybe its a tie haha.

I like watching movies so much more than reading and it’s because movies show something that I cannot even imagine in my head when I am reading. The Hunger Games movie created something so much better than what I had in my head. Also, I am not a big fan of first person narrators because there is so much more to the story than what Katniss knows, and the movie does great at showing that.

I love the book more just because it was what brought me to love the world of the hunger games so much. It was much grittier than the movie and was able to establish better character development and relationships. The movie should have been rated R, just so they could’ve shown more brutality and struggle (the book captured this perfectly).

I really enjoyed both book and movie adaptation of the Hunger Games! But if I was to pick a favorite I would have to go with the book simply because I adore reading as it transports me into another world and is like I can escape my duties in the real world and travel with Katniss in the arena or Harry in Hogwarts or Percy in Camp Half Blood. Books are my favorite things and for that simply reason I prefered it. It also included a lot more plot and character wise that they simply couldn’t fit into a 2hr30 movie! <3

Although it was great seeing it on the screen with an amazing group of actors and actresses, the books allows us to get inside Katniss’ mind and understand her knowledge of how she comprehends how the Games are a tool for the Capital. The books also offer a greater assortment of characters that impact Katniss and her life.

(Okay it seams my last comment was not appearing so I’ll just say it again)(It’s a bit long, sorry) I don’t get why people are hating on the movie. I get it wasn’t the book, but doesn’t gary ross deserve some credit!?! He created a masterpiece that incorporated EVERY element, scene, and emotion of the book with only taking out 1 character. I find the movie was more than I can imagine, considering that other movie can fail (as true to the book) as Percy Jackson, New Moon, Avalon High and many more did. The Hunger Games was the last one standing, the victor I guess! No matter what the book it still better like any true die hard Hunger Games Fan would say, but I still find that this series will find its way trapped in Adults, Teenagers, and Tweens. Thank you for reading this post even though I’m not awesome enough to be in your presence! Continue being amazing and continue teaching society. Fire is Catching!

its a tough call between both. i mean the books had everything but although the movie missed a thing or two from the books it was still amazing! the actors chosen were just fantastic! jennifer lawrence, one of the most amazing actresses of our time, and josh hutcherson, who has been making epic movies since he was a little boy! but i have to say that the book was better. The reason is because the books had everything from madge and the mockingjay pin to how katniss feels and what goes through her mind throughout the whole thing! We know how she feels which to me adds more mystery and makes it all intense, but dont get me wrong, the movie was veryy intense as well which is why for me ts a close call. but if i really had to choose between both i would say that the book was slightly better.

I love both of them so this is hard but I have to say I like the books better because you could basically tell that it was in Katniss’s point of view in the whole series while in the movie it took a couple minutes to get who point of view it was and another reason it is a story you can tell the whole story then in the movie you can’t tell the whole story of the Hunger Games and that is just my opinion.

I think that I liked the books better then the movie. I am a big reader and almost always like the books better than the movies. There are lots of things though you could show in the movie and not the books and vice versa. I liked how in The Hunger Games movie they did a really good job on going by the book, i really like movies that are bassed off of books if they are close to or by the book, i think they did and excelent job. I really like the diffrent little things Garry Ross added like the scene where the little kids are play fighting with swords and stuff. I think that in the book you can only see Katniss point of veiw, and in the movie you can see evreything pretty much, you cant hear Katniss thoughts though, that is a dissadvantage. I really liked the mpvie and thought they did an awsome job of fitting a few weeks that was in the book to 2 and a half hours of movie, and I can not wait to see it on DVD! :) thanks! :)

I preferred The Hunger Games novel over the movie. though it was a tough call. Jennifer Lawrence was perfection in every sense of the word. She flawlessly captured the true essence of Katniss without diminishing the raw power of the character. Though I am a huge fan Josh Hutcherson, I am a bigger fan of Peeta. I didn’t feel that Josh was able to live up to every aspect of Peeta. His performance was slightly shallow, lacking the true strength Peeta possesses, not just the big heart. The book was more real for me as a reader. I found myself able to connect with the characters on a more intimate level. I feel that Gary Ross made a tricky decision when he chose to not have narrations. The movie may be more realistic without them, but for viewers who had not read the book it may have been tough to follow. Certain parts of the movie truly deserve insight from the heroine that was not provided in the film. It was hard to tell how Katniss felt for Peeta, and the emotional connection between the audience and the characters on screen was not as strong as it could have been. In the books i fell head over heals for Peeta because of his many layers. In the movie however, I couldn’t help but think he was just a nice guy with no fire. Gary Ross did do a phenomenal job on the film but it’s just not the same. The book had such raw power and haunting qualities that the film did not possess. I literally had nightmares the night after i finished The Hunger Games. Unfortunately, the movie does not follow me in the ways the book does. For those reasons I have to say that the book was better than the movie this time. We’ll see for Catching Fire and Mockingjay 1 & 2(:

Honestly, I think I liked the movie better just a little bit… Even though I usually like books better than movies, I feel that “The Hunger Games” was an outstanding film. Although missing a few scenes and characters, this movie still told the main story line. The actors/actresses and all the crew did an outstanding job as well! The people who played the characters were a perfect pick! I loved all the characters, and I was even happier when I found out some of my favourite actors and actresses got some of the roles!(i.e Leven Rambin, Josh Hutcherson, Jennifer Lawrence, etc…)

In some ways though, the book is a tad better… but I still prefer the movie. The book has a lot more detail, but I understand those details not being in the movie, or the movie would be probably over 5 hours long!

In conclusion, I do like the movie better than the book in a few ways.

Though I loved them both, I would have to say the book. For me, one of the things that made The Hunger Games so fantastic was Katniss’ commentary, the world of Panem was so much more interesting with the details that she explains to us, the readers. Like Avoxes, or the history of Tracker Jackers and Mockingjays which is important later when Katniss (spoiler)becomes the Mockingjay. This metaphore is only significance if it is understood how Mockingjays are “something of a slap in the face to the Capitol” (The Hunger Games). Also, I love the part where Katniss is looking for water in the arena and she knows that she must be close, or else Haymitch would have sent her something. This illustrates how her and Haymitch are on the same wavelength, which is really interesting and adds to the reader’s understanding of both characters. I miss this in the movie, as well as a lot of other great parts in the book which were impossible for the movie to have in detail, such as Katniss’ relationship with her father, Madge, Katniss’ prep team, Lady (Prim’s goat), Buttercup and Greasy Sae (both of whom were in the movie but weren’t named or given much screen time), Posy (Gale’s younger sister, who is left out when Katniss says that Gale has to take care of his brother’s, implying that he has no sister), the electric fence around district 12, and much more. These things made the book a lot more interesting, and although the movie was fantastic, you just can’t choose the remake over the original.

Comparing the book to the movie is hard. The book goes into so much more detail which allows you to feel like you are actually in the world. I remember when I first read The Hunger Games I was drawn so much into the book that I could’t put it down; it felt like if I stopped reading I would miss something. Suzanne Collins did a wonderful job making her book an unforgettable experience. But the movie is a different story…Which you don’t get the same depth with the characters and their emotions, you get to actually see and experience the world first hand. Instead of imaging everything in your head you get to sit back and watch the action your head never could! Both book and movie give a different type of joy and entertainment! I would say that I like both the book and the movie just the same, but for me I enjoyed the book a little bit more. Even though I love to sit back and enjoy a film, the book had something extra special that the movie couldn’t replace!

The book had a bigger effect on me than the movie did. I think all the casting and actors were perfect, but I think that if you hadn’t read the book before you saw the movie, you’d be very confused. While I was at the theater watching it, I was the only one of my friends who had already read the whole series a long time ago, so I had to explain a lot of things, which wasn’t fun.

I think they are completely different and that it isn’t fair to ask if one is better than the other. I loved the book, I think it’s actually my favorite book of all time. However the film, which I also believe is my present favorite film, is meant to be a visual companion for the book. It goes one step further in creating a visual escape away from the page. It isn’t supposed to be a copy of the book. It’s purpose is of creation. That’s why I love both a tremendous amount. Jennifer Lawrence is one of my favorite people and other people may think otherwise. Films are an artistic expression and so are books. They shouldn’t be compared.

Also, compared to book Peeta, I felt that movie Peeta was a tad weaker and I imagined his character a little differently. I, however, thought Jennifer’s acting was spot-on & although I wasn’t completely satisfied with movie Peeta, Josh did a remarkable job too. The main difference to me was the difference in the character depth, and I wish the movie would have gone deeper into their characters. That’s why, to me, the book is better.

Personally, I think that as great as the movie was, it didn’t live up to the original book. Don’t get me wrong though, the movie was phenomenal–much better than most movies based on books. To me, it’s just that in the book, you really got to connect with some characters and as a result, you feel a stronger bond to them. In the movie however, this wasn’t quite played out. For instance, Rue. In the book, the reader gets to know who Rue is and sees more of her than a viewer of the movie, thus, her death was more tragic being read. Another example is Peeta. Viewers don’t see as much of Peeta as readers do in the book. The readers know a lot more about Peeta than the viewers do and therefore, grow much more attached to him. In addition to connecting to characters, the movie was also only little more than two hours long. In the book, so much happened and understandably, fitting everything we loved (“You here to finish me off, sweetheart?”) into the movie would mean quite a long production. And although it’s comprehensible that attempting to thrash everything in a single movie would be nearly impossible, you just can’t help and wish you saw those few parts pictured in your head. All in all however, reading the book always makes one become closer to the characters/plot than a film’s portrayal. (Nonetheless, I do believe the film was the best book adaption ever.)

It’s very tough to pick as The Hunger Games is my favorite movie and book. But, I think the book is better by 0.00001 %. I loved the book because it had so much detail, Suzanne Collins made you think about how each character felt. For example, Cato just wanted to win this so he can make people proud of him. Like this is all he’s good for. And Suzanne also made it seem like it was you who was in the Hunger Games reading everyone’s minds and point of views. I loved it! The movie followed the book so much! I mean look at other book-to-movie movies that haven’t followed the book and messed up and changed everything. The movie is exactly like the book, just not as descriptive. I think having Suzanne on set was a BIG push in the right direction! Hopefully, I win! It’s hard to decide, really, because there were elements of the movie that I liked better than the book and vice versa. I’d have to say that I do somewhat prefer the book, though, as I usually do. The movie did a fantastic job, and I loved the little touches that were lacking in the book. The scenes with Seneca Crane and President Snow were fantastic, for example. But for me, having read the books before the movie, Panem was constructed in my mind first. It was all there- the characters, the scenery and everything- and it was the *book* that provided the details and framework for it. The movie is just another version of Panem, drawn from the same source material as my mental picture of it. Different, but not necessarily better or worse. But the book is where it all starts.

I love how in the book you can get to know more ofeach character and come on we all wanted to see more of the kissing between Katniss&Peeta in the cave just like it happens in the book! Haha! But again I still enjoyed the movie which lets admit was very close to the book and in my opinion was very well directed!

I really like them both because each has a slight change. Such as in the books we know Madge but, in the movie we don’t. Also there is a few things they added in like when Katniss and Foxface ran into each other. Or those scenes with Caesar at the beginning or when he explains what tracker jackers are to those who havent read the books. So I would have to say that I probably like them both.

This is a hard choice because I loved both the movie and the book. Overall, I think they worked together to tell a good story, with the books providing details and Katniss’s opinions and the movie conjuring images of the world at large and playing out the action. The book had som good details that the movie was lacking, but there were several small bits in the movie that weren’t in the book but still hit home with the characters and story. Overall, I think the book was better because the book is always better but the movie was very close and fits with the book in the development of a fan’s experience.

When it comes down to it, I liked the Hunger Games books better. Whenever I read a book I feel like I have a personal relationship with each word and with each chapter that cradles my mind. The books really let me peek into Katniss’s thoughts and motionvations behind her actions, and movies leave a lot to be desired. Whenever I feel weak or feel like I cant do something, I always think back to the hunger games and that relationship I have Katniss. If she had the strength to do what she did, then I too could lift my head high, and find the strength to succeed at whatever I’m doing.

I’m a deticated fan to The Hunger Games the books were amazing my imagination was crazed with hunger games for a few weeks I didnt look at the world the same, I also thought that the world of hunger games was going to start. I honestly have to say I loved the book a lot better. I am not saying I hated the film , I certainly did enjoy it just not as much as the book. The book captured more detail as Katniss was actually able to tell the reader her thoughts where as the film you sort of had to guess at her thoughts, because complete narration would be annoying. Overall, I liked both but I am going to have to go for the book :)

I think this is one of those rare instances where although I missed certain elements that couldn’t be included from the books (due to time), the film itself was in my mind a bit more interesting in its own right. For one, much of the story is about how these characters’ lives are being manipulated and filmed… so to actually SEE that footage (as opposed to just imagining what it might look like) is quite chilling. The movie also added scenes and perspectives we never had a chance to explore in the books (where everything was told through the eyes of Katniss).

So yes, for once, I actually slightly prefer a film over its original book.

I absolutely loved the books. And how everything went along with it. I loved the story in the books better because of course the book gave more details on what happens to Katniss in and out of the arena. But I love the movie better for its realistic feeling towards it! The movie makes the book come to life and it has the important parts of the story in it and the characters in the movie (Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworthe etc.) were the PERFECT fit. They chose some really unknown actors and made them into huge idols and gives people who haven’t read the books an idea of what happens in all the districts of panem and to the lives of the people who suffer in there.

(continuation from last comment by Hope) BOOK: The imagination, romance, and the points shown in the book is what really caught me. The book has such detail as small as the fear she feels in herself (Katniss) to the big details from Peeta’s love for Katniss. The book has a HUGE climax that makes you read until you start tearing from the inside to the outside! It gives a twist to a normal story and a twist to what the future will look like. But what it gives the most of is emotion and describes it only a way that a hard, true, and understanding reader can understand. But when you read The Hunger Games Trilogy you feel that the instant she starts describing everything she feels. So you can get caught onto the book and not even notice a whole day has gone by! The book is so POWERFUL! I t can literally take your breath away it can leave you panting and maybe even shaking for more detail as to what may be happening next and that’s what the book can bring to you in such a spontaneous and fullfilling way!

Movie: The Hunger Games the movie is what literally no person can describe. It’s so hard for me to write this right because of the books intensity it givesmyou which brings you to a hault as to what to say about the movie! The movie brings the book to life! It gives you a sight of how she really feels and it compares what you think of whats going to happen next and what’s actually going to happen next. The movie is a bit different but not in a bad way. I like how the movie was rearranged to show the point of veiw Katniss had and the feelings Katniss has for her sister Prim. The movie may not have great detail as the book has, but it brings in very important parts of the story which a movie is supposed to do! The characters in the movie blended to gether so perfectly that wheb you watch the movie you would think it was real and instead of watching the movie you would feel like you were in it because of the amazin =g stunts and acting that brings it to life! You would think you were literally there because the movie moves you in such a way the character in the story of the movie is moved. Like is=f Katniss would cry you would feel like crying or when she has fear in her eyes would have fear in your eyes because what she feels and thinks, YOU feel and think because of how strong the actors brought these characters to life! Another thing is the camera movement. The camera moves very fast as to when she was running in the beginning of the film but to understand what she is actually seeing is what they were trying to point out because in a movie you are supposed to hear, feel (emmotions), and feel everything the character is hearring, feeling, and seeing!

Together: I personally liked the plot and climax and detail in the books better in the movie because it was the original of the movie and gives what truly went on in the life of Katniss and other characters around her in the story. But I liked the movie better for capturing the points in the story of the Hunger Games and of course actually getting to see the description of the characters as to what they were described as in the book. And to actually get a physical feel of emmotions she brings in the movie and how it was a bit twisted ariund to show the audience who HAS NOT READ THE BOOKS what Katniss feels towards her little sister (mockingjay given to Prim by Katniss instead of Madge giving Ktniss the pin as a token of her district). But all in all they both were _ – _ – _ (which means noo words can describe can describe what the movie and the book mean to me) because the both of them match in all ways together if you understand it’s UNDESCRIBABLE story! – Thank You\\ Mahalo!

When I see them in the movie, they look so natural that I do want to believe them and empathize. I just pass through the entire story together with these characters.
The movie and book were so inspiring that I even made a paper-cutting picture of Katniss in the Capitol.

I normally feel that books are better than the movies and even now, I still agree. In the Hunger Games movie, the filmmakers take out a lot of important information just to shorten the length of the movie (ex: Madge and the Avox girl’s story). That is one reason why I prefer the book over the movie. The second and more important reason why I prefer the book is because of imagination. When reading a book that doesn’t have a movie, I can imagine the characters and the settings to be whatever my heart an mind says they should look like-but once a movie comes out, it kills a reader’s ability to infer and create pictures in their minds. As a bookworm and dedicated Hunger Games obsessor, I can and will say that imagination is important… very. However, I do think that the Hunger Games cast and crew has done a pretty satisfying job with presenting the movie and book in a likely and interesting manner. :) Smiles, Quinn

I think that it’s unfair to judge book to movie. Both have equally different aspects of them that make them original, for example, a book has only text which fuels your imagination, but also has an opportunity for a more in-depth story. The movie, however, was a great visual and story – but the fact that it HAS visual changes the grounds for which one is better. The book has great detail and depth, but then again the writing of the book wasn’t spectacular, like Gary Ross did with THG. The movie was greatly directed, with actors that do a superb job of conveying emotions (i.e., better than Daniel Radcliffe and Harry Potter) and the visual was a great play on the book. I think that the movie was better, just because it was directed, acted, and edited that in the end, it would be a fantastic product – and a true tribute to all us fans out there. The plotline in THG was great, an amazing idea thought up by Suzanne Collins – but in the end, Gary Ross was able to take that idea and embark us all on a journey that we only saw inside our heads – not something that looked like it was real.
To conclude, I believe the movie is better, just how stunning the visuals were and how different aspects of it just make you go, “oh, that happened in chapter ___” or, “wow, I wish I saw that in real life.”

I liked the book better just because there are more details and you can connect to the characters better. I also think you have a better idea of what’s going on, whereas in the movie I think it would be confusing to people who hadn’t read the book when all the tributes were running to the cornucopia and you couldn’t hear a thing.

I’ve read the first book four times and the other two, three times. I’ve also seen the movie twice in theaters. In some ways I like the book more because it’s more detailed into Katniss’s feelings and thoughts during the whole story. It’s also more intense. However, in many ways I like the movie more because you can actually SEE what goes on in the book, and the movie shows things that the book didn’t really go into as much. If I had to choose one over the other, I would have to say the movie since I can actually watch it instead of picture it in my mind. Plus, the characters seem more likable in the movie. Even Haymitch and Cato seem more likable, at least by the end of the movie.

Usually with a movie adaptation of a book, the book is always better than the movie, no matter how great the movie. The reason? No book-to-movie adaptation is going to be exactly how each fan imagined the story. So, for me, it’s like comparing apples to oranges. A movie must always stand on its own, and has its own strengths and weaknesses. The Hunger Games movie’s strengths were being able to add the extra scenes to explain more about the dystopian world and being able to cut away from Katniss’ perspective. The book’s strengths were being able to delve deeper into Katniss’ mind and therfore also portray the more sublte nuances of Katniss’and Peeta’s realationship. So, for me, I liked the movie and the book equally.

I love it that it’s written in Katniss’s point of view which can’t really be portrayed in the movie. Some parts were complicated in the movie like the Bread Scene I couldn’t understand that he was helping her and that she now owed him like she explains in the book: she hates owing people. Anyways, the books and the mvie were both amazing and took my breath away.

The books are always better than the movies. However, I thought the movie was extremely true to the book. I don’t know of any other movie that portrayed a story more accurately. Not many parts were altered or left out and I thought the scenes that were added were perfect! I even wish those added scenes were in the book. The scene where President Snow and Seneca Crane are talking about hope and that the spark has to be contained is a crucial part to the entire plot. I also loved how the scene of the rebellion of District 13 was added. You can assume that is what happened while reading the books, but you really only get the story from Katniss’s perspective. You get a third person point of view from the movie. It showed the different perspectives of the citizens of Panem and the citizens of the Capitol. The movie truly gave the audience a story that actually meant something and I got that “oh my god that was perfect” feeling once I left the theater! It was a truly unique film and I think it did the book justice.

When most pop culture entertainment jumps from vellum to viewing i usually always feel let down with the way films handle the interpretation, simply because once you bring an interpretation to life on the screen it instantly becomes concrete and finite; a sort of confinement of details. This of course means that no movie could ever be done “well enough” to completely satisfy avid fans of the book, since essentially, we are witnessing the workings of someone else’s cognitive imagination bring the book to life through one person’s (or a small group of persons’) mind’s eye, when most of us feel our own conceptualization of the book likely went at least somewhat differently. That all being said, i strongly encourage any and all persons (especially American youth) to read more books, and any movie which popularizes a series of books, (even if they are “YA fiction”) thus encouraging moviegoers to pick up the series and get their neurons all hot and bothered is a win in my eyes. The movie IS visually captivating, exciting enough, yet noticeably toned down so as not to over limit it’s exposure potential to younger (and hopefully eager to read) audiences, and provides a much larger narrative than a book written from a first person perspective of one downtrodden Katniss could ever give us. My answer: both. The books are the holy grail, but in this culture of ours, i hope the visually captivating movie may serve as a rosetta stone of sorts, providing the tools to our smart phone obsessed youth allowing them to slowly decipher all the even richer exciting benefits reading a book can provide. Even if it’s read on their kindles. :)

The movie was missing a few smaller details and characters that were present in the book (like Madge providing the mockingjay pin that helps spark the rebellion), which gives the book a slight edge in my opinion.
Even though I did prefer the book over the movie, I absolutely loved seeing The Hunger Games in theaters. It was spectacular, and the fact that it included some of my favorite actors and actresses (like Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Alexander Ludwig, and Jack Quaid, etc.) only added to its excellence. Gary Ross and his team did an amazing job of setting up the atmosphere that was present in the book. While watching the movie, I felt like I was actually in Panem and participating in the games alongside Katniss, Peeta, and Cato! The Hunger Games was easily the best movie I have seen all year.
Suzanne Collins is a brilliant author and Gary Ross is an amazing director, and together they will make The Hunger Games one of the most memorable titles to ever exist.

I love the books, and the movie, I’ve read the books plenty and went to the movie lots! The movie was really similar to the book in many ways . Everything was just as I pictured it! I can’t say I liked the book more because the movie was pretty much like it and I can’t say I liked the movie more for the same reason. So I say both!!! Maybe the book a little more. But otherwise I lied both!!!

In most cases the books are usually better, but with The Hunger Games, the movie reflected amazingly back to the original text, especially compared to other books turned movies.I would say the book is just slightly better than the movies.

When creating a movie based on a book, there will always be differences. When it comes down to it, I prefer the book, but I’m also glad that the movie isn’t a carbon copy of it. It gave me a different view of the story, and I don’t think it would have be as enjoyable if it WAS identical to the book (which is nearly impossible, anyway). It helped me see different parts of it that I may have overlooked or skimmed over in the book, so that when I reread it, I appreciated those parts a lot more. So all in all, I like the book better, but not by much.

Although I loved the movie in both its acting and visual appeal, I definitely have to go with the choice of the books. The movie was spectacularly done, and I couldn’t have hoped for more, but to me, the vivid imagination always seems to win out.

I loved both of them equally. I really love the movie because I like NOT reading. As reading takes me forever. I saw the movie first before I picked up the books actually. I really liked the movie I NEEDED to read the books. Because there’s always something in the books that didn’t quite make it in the movie. Lol! I got a hold of them eventually and just powered through them. I’ve read all the books like about 5 times each now, which is pretty impressive for me, as I almost never reread books. Rereading them is like rewatching a movie for me. They’re just easy fun reads. |D Well, except for the third one. The third one just makes me sad most of the time. ;n; BUT I STILL LIKE IT. Gruesome terrible deaths are always fun. |D

The book is better, but the most interesting difference is that the movie doesn’t try to be the book. It is obviously a different version of the same story. The book is only from one POV; if Katniss wasn’t there, it isn’t in the book. The movie could show things she didn’t know about.

The Capitol did do true evil things that just didn’t make into the movie ex: harpooning people from hovercrafts,Avox, the eyes of the mutts. Also Peeta and Katniss in the cave was cut short in the movie and I loved the cave scene also there is alot more kissing in the novel I did like the movie but the book was much better.

In my opinion the book and movie are both spectacular. The movie gives you something visually appealing and surprising, while also very accurate and to the book. The book itself meant the world to me, and is by far better in my opinion, although the movie did the book justice defently, sommething about the book just completely touched me. I was going through a hard time and picked up the book in attempt to get my mind off of crying, and I was rushed into this world of Hunger and brutality unlike anything ive ever read. It brought me through a terrible time, and healed me. I really love this story and the strength of Katniss and what shes willing to do for love is unbelievable.

As surprising and entertaining as the movie was, the book far surpasses the film in terms of symbolism, chemistry, history, and emotion. I felt the complexity of the relationship between Katniss, Peeta, and Gale just wasn’t captured correctly in the movie edition, and the symbolic impact of the Mockingjay pin wasn’t represented as powerfully as it could have been. The pure detail and dimension in the book is what will always endure in my mind :)

As cliche as it seems, the book is by far better!

It is hard to say, but the book is better than the movie. Alhtough the movie portrayed the book well, there are still some details that were left out. But, I did like that you could see what happened to Seneca Crane, and the talk between President Snow and Seneca Crane about hope. Peeta was supposed to have blue eyes, as well as Prim and her mother, and Haymitch was supposed to have the same “Seam” look as Gale and Katniss. I know that it may seem trivial, but to fans it is disapponting.

The book. More build-up of the Peeta and Katniss relationship and the ending is better. With Peeta’s leg; the drawn-out mutant attack and the fact that they actually almost eat the berries. The movie was equally good, but I was expecting to be able to hear her thoughts. I jumped and spilled the popcorn both times I watched the wolf scene in the theater. And I choked back tears when Rue died. It all looked so real. The cave scene was not what I was expecting.

This is a really tough call. The Hunger Games was an amazing book, and a REALLY GOOD movie. I liked some things better in the movie than in the book to be honest. Somethings that happened in the movie I would think “Did that not happen in the book like that?”. It was really weird to think of it without the change the movie did. I liked them both the same. The changes that were not in book were not obvious ones like the game makers room, which was cool to see, but actually plot changes. LIKE: The mockingjay pin. The pin showed the relationship between Prim and Katniss without having to use much film time. I liked it in the movie better (The arrival of the pin) because Madge was a VERY minor character, and ended up not even telling her what it meant, but was explained elsewhere. I liked the movie SO much, but all in all, I liked the book better. I CANT WAIT FOR THE NEXT MOVIE. :)

I personally loved the whole approach to the hunger games books. It was interesting to read about a society, (not much different than our past a.k.a the Romans,) but to read about what we could very well become in te future. I could feel Katniss’ disgust during the games, or about them. I cried with her when everything falls down in mockingjay. But most of all, I really felt connected to the books as if it was happening to me. During the movies, I was bawling during rue’s death. I didn’t feel te connections as much in the movie, it was great though. I still love it. But sometimes movies don’t always convey the same feelings and connections. I feel like in the movie we missed out on a lot of katniss and peeta’s relationship development. And also a lot of katniss’ feelings. The thoughts during the games in her head was lost in production. Same with her breaking peeta’s heart on te train ride home and saying it was all an act. (Which we know isn’t completely true!) in the end, I do love the movie tremendously, but my love for the book wins by a landslide for favorites.

Though the movie was fantastic, I really enjoyed the books more. I was an absolute hater of reading until I read this fantastic stories. I read all of them in about 4 days, I couldn’t put them down. In the first one when they revoke the rule change, I started crying because I thought Peeta was going to be killed by Katniss… the book made me cry, but the movie didn’t. How weird is that? And I also read Mockingjay in one day. I could not put that book down. The books are magnificent and I am currently reading Catching Fire for the 3rd time. I think in the end, the book is always better than the movie for sure because you get to use your imagination instead of it being laid out for you in the movie. Although I am in love with both the movie and the book, I would have to say that I liked the book more. The book, of course, has a lot more detail. It lets you know Katniss a lot better because it shows her thoughts and feelings. The book also expressed more emotions between Katniss and Peeta. I loved in the book how Madge Undersee was the one to give Katniss the mockingjay pin. She was one of my favorites. I was definitely dissapointed when she wasn’t in the movie. I also like how Katniss and Rue bonded more in the book. In the movie, I felt that they didn’t get to know each other as well. They also didn’t mention in the book how Peeta loses his leg. I do understand that they cannot fit everything from the books into the movies, as there is way too much detail. I thought that the movie followed the book really well. I was very proud of it. Most movies I watch that are based off of books don’t follow the story as well as The Hunger Games did. Of course, it helped with an amazing director and talented actors/actresses such as Jenniffer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson. I watched the movie many times, and I will be sure to buy it on DVD as soon as it comes out. Both the movie and the book are amazing and have made me a raving fan, not missing out on any Hunger Games news. Overall, I would have to of course say that the book was better. <3 Thank you for the oppurtunity for me to share this with you.

I had some friends who went to see the movie without reading the book, and they told me that they had a hard time following the plot and the storyline. There were a few small details in the movie that were different in the book (i.e. The way Katniss got the mockingjay pin) that ticked me off. Now, don’t get me wrong, the movie was great, but I don’t think that it lived up to the standards that the book set for it.

Yes, the film was very well done, and the adaption to film stayed true to the book. I would still choose the book, because there was so much in the book, that was not captured on film, which left much to the imagination. However, Suzanne Collins did say that the book and the film does complements each other; and, I would agree that it does. Either way, both are on my “love” list. :)

The movie was good! But to me was slightly…off? Gale was out of character, he seemed more nice in the movie and was defiantly to friendly to be in love with Katniss. Peeta was such a great character, sweet, caring, kind but in the movie he came across as weak. President Snow looked like Santa. The Capitol looked like Atlantis and the Capitol people weren’t as colorful as i thought they should be. The Capitol overall was metallic and cold, not tacky and halloweenish. I thought there food would be more crazy and delicious looking, but all i saw was plastic looking foods. There was no relationship with Rue so i wasn’t that emotional when she died. Also there was no relationship with Katniss and her other stylsts which will now make Mockingjay weird when she goes to save them from being tortured in the Capitol. (i’m not talking about Cinna. Cinna was good!) Even though it seems like i compared and almost trashed this movie, i really did enjoy it. I do like how they filmed it, making it look like you were there, i like how they made District 12 look (though i wish the kids and people would look more starving) i liked the Careers the most and how hard and serious they came across in training and how violent they were in the Games. I loved the actors performances, Jennifer Lawrence when she was hit by the fireball, i was in tears. I felt her pain. When she’s being rolling her eyes at Haymitch, it’s hilarious to watch. Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, he was born to be Peeta. He had me awwing when he was asking Katniss to stay. I am defiantly looking forward to the Real or Not Real scene if you know what i mean. WIth all that in mind, the movie and book were both equally amazing but i have to say the books are always better.

I am a serious Hunger Games fan and will die when the second movie of The Hunger Games come out… I’ll be the judge if the movie is better than the book then! But this time i will have to say the book was a bit better than The Hunger Games movie!!! But great job Gary Ross!

I loved both the book and the movie but I liked the book a lot better. The movie was fantastic by the way, very exciting but the book had more detail (Well, no duh). I was really really disappointed when they took out Madge. She was the reason why Katniss even got the Mockingjay pin but in the movie they portrayed it as Katniss seeing it at The Hob. The also didn’t show much about the Avoxes. It wasn’t really an important role to be shown but it shows how cruel the Capitol was and is. Plus, the movie wasn’t shown in Katniss’ P.O.V so we didn’t get to see the love triangle between Gale, Peeta and Katniss and how Katniss feels about both of them and her relationship with them.
Overall, the book was much better. :)

They were both amazing, but in different ways. The movie was amazing, it followed very closely to the story line to the point where you could just watch the movie and know the whole plot. It was visually stunning and the special effects and sets were fantastic. Although I did LOVE the movie, I have to say I like the book better, because there was more detail and more suspense.

I would have to say the book, but I’m always like that. The book just gets in details that the movie cant. Though i will say they did a good job making the book into a movie. :)

It’s close, but I think I preferred the book. I did really enjoy the movie though. While the shaky camera turned me off, I like how the movie was able to give more focus on the main characters and tell the story considering the time limits, and I loved the visuals of the Capitol. The book lets you see more into the thoughts and emotions though, and gives a greater understanding of the situation overall I think.

I liked the book more than the movie, the movie was great and stayed pretty close to the story line, but there’s just something about reading a book and the story alive in your own way. There are also more details that are in the book that got left out of the movie.

I’m personally a bigger fan of the books just because I can read it and experience it in my own time.

I read the books first and then saw the movie in theatre. I think that both are great but I really loved the books. I love being able to recreate the images of the characters in my mind.

The Hunger Games is an incredibly written series of books, combining a starkly beautiful writing style with the immediacy of first-person/present-tense. While the movie would never be able to fully capture the feeling of Katniss’ perspective (and misses out on a few details and characters: Madge! Peeta’s leg!), it does serve to fill in other parts of the story. Haymitch meeting with sponsors, the uprising in District 11, Seneca Crane and President Snow, and (perhaps most interesting) the actions of the Gamemakers in real time. The movie also gives us a necessary perspective of the Games, that of viewer. The reality show aspect of the series is so important that, inevitably, the movie was able to illustrate things that the book could not. In this way, I would compare it to another book/movie combo, that of Neil Gaiman’s Stardust. Each media adds something to the other: I always say to read the book, then watch the movie (or if you’ve seen the movie first, to read the book and then watch the movie again). In the end, the book will always come first, but the movie (especially as it was so well done) is an important, and highly enjoyable addition to the canon. I still miss Madge, though.

I think I stand with most when I say the book was better. Movie was great but with the book I felt like I became Katniss, unlike the movie where I felt I was just a part of her life. And especially since like someone else pointed out, it’s not in first person…it’s more third person which is less intimate. But that’s just me.

I read all theses books fast! At night when I went to bed I couldn’t fall asleep . For the movie I didn’t have any problems! My friends and I went to see the midnight showing. IT WAS SPECTACULAR!!
