Glee Guest Post: Lima Losers? Not Anymore.

By 2 Comments

For all the Gleeks in the world, read Maria Lima‘s take on why “Original Song” reminded us of why Glee is so great!

***

They say good things come to those who wait (for all values of “they” that equal the collective cultural consciousness). For Gleeks, those good things came in the most recent episode, “Original Song” (2-16), with a heaping helping of fabulous fan service.

After the highs of season one, season two has been a bit of a meandering ride, less a roller coaster than a gentle boat ride; sometimes Pirates of the Caribbean fun, sometimes It’s a Small World irritating–and the irritating could get as annoying as those tinny tiny voices of the infamous Disney attraction. Weirdly, off-arc episodes such as …

Giveaway: To get you through the Glee hiatus

By 14 Comments

Though it’s a little shorter than most of the other spring hiatuses we’re currently suffering through, we’re now without a new Glee episode until April 12. Which means now is a perfect time for us to give away a copy of Filled With Glee.

But wait, there’s more!

If you were watching the audience during the group number at Regionals last night, you may have noticed all those big red foam fingers in the crowd:

Last summer, Fox gave away a red foam “Loser” finger at Comic-Con–one very similar to the ones we saw last night, only with “Glee” across the front (and, of course, a visible thumb). If you win, you can have one–along with a copy of Filled with Glee–for your …

What Every Gleek Needs (Plus a Giveaway!)

By 10 Comments

Right on the heels of a brand-new Glee episode, here is our gift guide for every Gleek (and that’s nearly everybody, right?).

First, something to keep you warm (or, at least clothed).

Photobucket

From left to right: 1. Grilled Cheesus t-shirt; 2. I Heart Artie t-shirt; 3. The Gouda News

There are a few more tees you should check out, too, like this “It’s a Metaphor” t-shirt and this “Lima Loser” one.

Or, if you don’t like clothes (we don’t judge), you probably need to drink a lot of coffee to keep warm. So why not drink from this Brittany-inspired mug.

For those Gleeks who like to show their devotion by accessorizing, here are a few pretty things.

Jonna Rubin’s Gleecap!

By 2 Comments

Jonna Rubin sent her recap of last night’s Glee episode in late last night, and that was quite impressive. Recaps are no easy thing to put together, so thank you, Jonna! And, now, to the readers, just try not to enjoy this.

***

Let me just say, before I start, that if this episode makes me like Gwyneth Paltrow, it will be a shocking feat indeed. I am of the Gwyneth, uhhh, haters, if you will, after her remarkably self-absorbed and tone deaf endeavor, Goop. (Go ahead. Google. I’ll wait. Prepare a barf bucket.)

Are you back? Great. Now that you despise her as much as I do, let me also say that the woman has yet to demonstrate any real sense of humor about …

Glee’s “Never Been Kissed” (Guest Post!)

By No Comments

Another week, another fantastic guest post. We’re grateful to welcome such talented writers to our blog each week. This week we have Candace Havens discussing the latest Glee installment.

***

The “Never Been Kissed” episode of Glee has gone into my top-five favorites list. This is one of the times when the writers, producers, and director meshed the teen angst and music with the story in a powerful way. Using three stories about opposites, the show explored what it really means to be an outsider.

The episode began with the Glee kids being divided into girl and boy teams and given an assignment to perform a song meant for the other sex. This led into a story line about the boys trying to “cool off” …

Amy Berner’s Take on the Rocky Horror Glee Show

By 1 Comment

We were lucky this week to have two takes on the Rocky Horror Glee Show, last week’s Glee episode. Friday we heard from Kristine Kathryn Rusch and today we have Amy Berner, who’s a (delightful!) regular guest poster on the Smart Pop blog.

***

I’ve been looking forward to Glee’s take on Rocky Horror since I screamed with, well, glee at the announcement during San Diego Comic-Con.  Not because it’s a great film. It’s not. Really, every one of Sue’s comments made from her perch on the Criminologist’s chair was absolutely valid. But I love it anyway. If you’ve seen it in a theater with a live cast, you know that the movie itself really is secondary.

I liked that Glee’s version …

Guest Post: The Rocky Horror Glee Show

By No Comments

We actually have two guest posts — one below and one to go live Monday — from our Filled with Glee contributors on this past Rocky Horror episode. First up, Kristine Kathryn Rusch‘s post.

***

When the kind folks at Smart Pop asked me to blog on a Glee episode for this season, I specifically asked for the Rocky Horror episode. You see, Rocky Horror is the musical of my people.

My people–as defined here–are the science fiction fan community. Not a dance at a science fiction convention goes by without someone playing “Time Warp.” And we all do it. Again. We sing as we jump to the left. And laugh as we jump to the right. And no one cares who can sing …

Relationships in Glee’s “Duets”

By No Comments

A guest post from A.M. Dellamonica, whose Filled with Glee essay is “Who’s the Real LIMA Loser? Today, she’s talking about the Glee episode “Duets,” which aired last week.

***

The most recent episode of Glee, “Duets,” is at once an exploration of loneliness and a series of musical snapshots depicting different phases of human relationships.

What do I mean? Well, Will’s challenge to his glee students, to sing duets, mirrors society’s often-held view that a normal person will always exist as half of a couple. By structuring the week’s assignment as a two-by-two singing exercise, this episode shines a spotlight on the enormous pressure, especially on young adults, to prove they can find and keep a partner.

In real …
