This weekend marks the third annual GeekGirlCon. From October 19-20, geek girls (and geek girl supporters!) will be gathering at the Seattle Conference Center for parties, panels, and geekery of all kinds.

While we won’t be attending this year, we will be sending the conference some goodies, so you can still come away with Smart Pop swag. If you’re going to be there, be sure to look in your attendee swag bag for either a Fic: Why Fanfiction Is Taking Over the World pen (one of two variations: “This is my ficcing pen” and “Fic this!”) or a copy of the 2013 Smart Pop Preview.

As you may have noticed, we’re pretty pro-fan here at Smart Pop. We have an incredible amount of appreciation and respect for the communities that grow up around television shows and book series, and that extends to the work fans do: fanart, fanvids, and–no matter how much “ruining the publishing industry!” press it’s gotten lately–fanfiction.
