Nyx in the House of Night Giveaway!

By November 17th, 2011 94 Comments

The ninth House of Night book, Destined, came out last month, and by now we figure you’re probably looking for your next House of Night fix; we’ve got a giveaway that should do the trick!

Five winners will receive:

  • a copy of Nyx in the House of Night signed by both P.C. and Kristin Cast
  • a gorgeous illustrated print of the goddess Nyx signed by the artist, Alan Torrance (check it out above)
  • and, as a little extra, a NYX cosmetics Slim Eye Pencil in sapphire (NO relation to the series; just a great coincidence!)

(We support everyone’s right to wear eyeliner, regardless of gender. But it’s also the perfect color for drawing on a Fledgling tattoo for the next book release party!)

To enter to win, just tell us in the comments what kind of tattoos you would get as an adult vampyre if you lived in Zoey’s world before midnight (EST) on Thursday, December 15. (No tattoos–you’d be human–is acceptable, too!) We’ll pick 5 at random to win. (Please note that the contest is only open to U.S. and Canadian readers. Really sorry, international readers!)

————–

Also! We want to send you P.C.’s introduction, plus the essay on Nyx from the book, free in PDF form right now, whether you enter to win or not (though we hope you will!). Just sign up for our Nyx in the House of Night mailing list below.

My tatoo would be perfect little carnation flowers with the stems inter-twined into little knots. I was born in January and carnations are the official flower for January. And they have been my favorite flower sence I knew what flowers were.
Whether my tatoo was saphire or crimson, it would be perfect for me.

But hopefully mine would be mystical and beautiful but fierce and strong. I would accept whatever the goddess would have chosen for me. :)

If I were to be marked as a fledgling it would be the best day ever. My talents as a human are artistic in makeup, nails, arts, well most every medium I find a way to make something interesting and creative, but I also love books. My tattoos that I would receive as an adult vampire would be intricately designed with brush strokes and shakespearian detailed calligraphy styled designs .

My knots and branches would tell my story and how i’m always going through challenges and facing my fears. They would show how I’ve over come many things in life to be the girl I am today. They would show how I always keep my head up and never ever let someone put me down.

The Goddess has gifted me with tattoos of butterflies. There’s one large butterfly on the very center of my face, the top part of it’s wings circle around my eyes as the bottom ones are on my cheeks below my eyes. The antennas of the butterfly are right in between my eyebrows, curve around my filled in crescent moon, and end right at my hairline. Elegant patterns of vines weave around my arms, shoulders, upper chest, and down my spine. Around and on the vines are more butterflies, each of them different and unique than the next.

I would also want to have a peacock feather design for my tattoo because i think that they show a lot of beauty & they also have a lot of intricate designs. I would also want my tattoo to have tiny words written in the design that describe me!

  43. Brittany Cameron

My tattoos would start with basic filled in crescent moon in the center of my forehead. To both sides of my face would be a tulip, the leafs would swoop down the temples and about mid cheek bone would be the blooming tulip. Tulips have been my favorite flowers since i was a kid when i helped my neighbor plant them in her garden. Surrounding the tulips would be small scrolls for writing because ive always loved writing poetry and short stories. I do believe if i went to the house of night Nyx would have gifted me with the affinty for earth only because i love being outside and love nature in general. I know the scrolls sort of clash with the tulips but i feel Nyx would gift me with them because the majority of my insperation for writing comes from nature. I write my best when im alone and outside. To most they would clash but to me they work together perfectly

I also have a strong conection to trees, owls and hawks so it maybe it would look like a tree or like hawks/owls. I dont know haha I know it would show who I am.

    Reply

  49. Dana

I would want my vampire tattoo to incorporate three things: owls, water and Celtic knots. Owl are my favorite animal and my entire room is decorated with them. I actually got to hold an eastern screech owl once. I also feel deeply connected to the element of water and have always been fascinated with Celtic things. I think it would look cool to have Celtic knotting and swirls surround the crescent moon. The swirls could extend out to look like waves towards the sides of my forehead. The swirls towards my temples would extend down to look like wings of an owl framing the sides of my face. At the tips of the wings there could also be what looks like water drop dripping of the tip of the feathers. This is what I picture my tattoo looking like. :)

Oh, how I’ve been waiting to share my idea of a tattoo design! I’m actually getting it really tattooed on me too! Ok, here it is, It’s going to consist all of the patterns on the actual book covers. The one i’m getting is going to start from under my armpit and end right under my hip area. It’s going to contain vines, leaves, twirls, and in the middle of the vines is going to be a beautiful blue crescent moon and then it’ll finish with the rest of the design down to my thigh area. Thats is JUST my side. ;) On my arms will also contain the same vine look, but it’ll hold dots, gears, beautiful lines that sway in every direction, like the roaring ocean, and just beautiful patterns that lead you to my face. It’ll go straight up to my cheeks and to my forehead, and then of course in the middle of my forehead it’ll be the crescent moon. I love HoN!! You affected my life SO much. <3 Even if I don't win, I still love you!

First off if I were a full vamp, my crescent would be filled in with that saphire blue. Also let me start with the fact that I would not be able to choose what my mark would be. That decision would be for Nyx to decide. But what i would desire? well marks are based on personality and affinities … right? Im a thinker so I’m guessing something spiritual. I love watching the wind in the trees. I I am a giver type with lots of caring and love to offer- Im thinking some dainty, antique-ish type swirls that could resemble a soft breeze or wind. And at the end of each(well, maybe not each) dainty line there would be a small heart. but not in the way where it resembles a tail type

I have a tattoo of zombie sparrows on my chest with their tongues tied representing eternal love. I also have a diamond tattoo on the back of my neck representing my birthstone, since I was born in April and my birthstone is a diamond. I am strong and everlasting as is my love. My tattoos would be covering my entire body just as Zoey’s are but scarlet instead of sapphire.

As a vampire watching your own tattoo’s develop is something beautiful, and inspirational. Obviously it would start with the cresent moon in the middle of my forhead and then vines twining around my face, down my neck, to my side where a strong and beautiful old oak tree would be. Some big blackbirds would appear fleeing the tree and would appear to go smaller around my body. And a small delicate cross would be found by my left eye. Vines would also be found swirling my arms.
The roots of the tree would go from big to small traveling down my hip/mid-stomach to my mid-thigh. I would want want something beautiful and unique, that represents me in some ways. My adult vampyre tattoo would certainly be a unique reflection of my personality and characteristics.
I’ve always thought that my tattoos would be the original sapphire. Decorating my face around the crescent moon would be delicate yet bold swirls and spirals. The silhouette shapes of phoenixes in flight would be just above the corners of my brows and from there would be more spirals and swirls.
The bold yet delicate pattern refers to my non-combative attitude and easy-going ways. The phoenixes represent my love of story-telling and myth and my refusal to be knocked down.
