Our A Taste of True Blood poll went so well, we wanted to do it again—this time for our upcoming book on Glee.
Part of me feels like this is a no-brainer. But I would have picked the cover that lost (by a lot) last time around . . . so that shows how much I know, right? Let us know what you think!
Your contestants:
B
(Both covers were designed by Nate Salciccioli over at Faceout Studio, the folks I know I’d want to work for if I had any artistic talent.)
We’ll leave this poll up until next Friday, and let you know how it turned out then!

This sounds like a fun book, but I don’t love either cover. The megaphone evokes Sue Sylvester — and while she’s a fun part of the series, she’s usually thoroughly anti-Glee — making her an odd choice to represent the show. Graphically, I don’t care for the way the megaphone covers up part of “filled.” And on the green cover — at least on my screen — the gold letters and star get swallowed up by the very bright green background. The yellow cover pops much better, but I like the composition of the green one. Just my two cents.

Both cents are very much appreciate.
I had the same uneasiness about using Sue/Cheerios-related imagery for the cover . . . but it does do a great job of making sure everyone who walks past it knows what the book is about!

Fair enough! And maybe it’s actually Quinn’s megaphone, anyway.

i basically agree with ella. i think if you made the star bigger, so it was more a background to the whole title, that might work.

Like the yellow and red but switch it to the other cover design…Yellow curtains and seats (vary huges), read lettering and bigger gold star.

I don’t even watch Glee and I know that the megaphone isn’t an appropriate association and the green cover is blah. Personally, I’d suggest going back to the drawing board, however if I had to select one of those it would be the green.

I, too, have to admit that I’m not terribly impressed. I would lean toward something with a person’s torso in it (the head cut off, but clearly supposed to be someone from the show – probably Kurt), perhaps doing jazz hands or something … or maybe show a picture of the legs and feet of a bunch of people on risers, which would elicit the show choir feel. Just some ideas.
Based just on what I’m seeing, I overall agree – I like the red and yellow motif, but actually like the green graphic a bit better.
Also, as a pet peeve … I don’t like that the title is in lowercase. I’d say the only reason to put the title in lowercase is if you’re going to capitalize the L in gLee to go with the “Loser” finger sign motif in a lot of their marketing … which, I assume, is probably protected by some sort of trademark or copyright. (Although, I wonder if you could make an L out of the megaphone…) Since you’re using the capital L, I’d say just go ahead and capitalize the title normally.

I agree that the megaphone is a somewhat “anti-glee” symbol- but as far a graphic dynamic- the yellow megaphone is more attention grabbing. the star is a a little small
